Review: PLAYdifferently MODEL 1 Mixer
PLAYdifferently is a new audio company founded on the belief that “the tools used to mix and perform should be as creative and as unique as the artists who use them.”
Their first product is a high-quality analog mixer, the MODEL 1. It was engineered by Andy Rigby-Jones, the mastermind behind Allen & Heath’s XONE series, and co-designed by techno DJ/producer Richie Hawtin.
“[The MODEL 1] offers some features that are completely unique in the DJ mixer world,” Mojaxx says. “There’s stuff on here that you just don’t see anywhere else.”

Serato Sample Is Now Available
After much anticipation, Serato has made its new Sample plugin available to the public. The production tool has been in an exclusive beta test for the past three months.
Sample is a plugin that enables producers to find and manipulate samples in tracks using any DAW that supports VST and AU formats, such as Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Logic Pro. Sample is Serato’s first production tool since it launched Pitch ‘n Time in 1998.
The announcement was made on Monday on Serato’s blog.
“We initially launched Sample as a Beta for experienced producers to test. Feedback from this group helped us improve and cater to different producer’s needs, giving us the versatile, powerful, user-friendly plugin that’s now ready for trial and purchase.”
As an incentive, the company has offered a free 30-day trial for its users.

James Hype Teams With Kelli-Leigh For House Anthem ‘More Than Friends’
James Hype (Photo credit: ItsJustJoeB Photography)
Rising DJ/producer James Hype has teamed up with in-demand singer Kelli-Leigh for a summer house anthem, “More Than Friends.” The track combines bass-heavy UK production with the lyrics from En Vogue’s 1996 R&B classic, “Don’t Let Go (Love).”
A staple in UK house music, Leigh is best known for singing on hits like Duke Dumont‘s “I Got U” and Secondcity’s “I Wanna Feel.” In 2011, she collaborated with the Bingo Players on the anthem “Cry (Just a Little).”
James tells us:
“I started to make ‘More Than Friends’ over a year ago and just couldn’t quite get it where I wanted it. Then by chance, I hooked up with Kelli-Leigh on Twitter, and everything quickly fell into place. Being the first vocal I ever recorded, it opened my eyes to a whole new level of songwriting past just making beats. So after a year of re-recording and road testing the track, it’s finally ready to light up every club’s dance floor.”
Stream “More Than Friends” below and download it on DJcity.
