Wide Awake, a DJ/producer duo comprised of DJcity UK’s CJ Beatz and Jordan Crisp, has put down a trap-influenced mini mix for Serato’s In The Mix series. Their set, which was filmed at Serato’s London studio, includes their single “Bang Your Head” featuring UK rapper Boya Dee.

After hitting SWSW, Skratch Bastid will be taking “Bastid’s BBQ” to Toronto and Calgary this summer.

Serato Releases Serato DJ Pro

Serato DJ Pro

Serato has released Serato DJ Pro — its biggest update since launching Serato DJ.

Serato DJ Pro, formerly Serato DJ, introduces major changes, including 64-bit support, a practice mode, a new performance pad cue layout, plus more.

The company also updated Serato DJ Intro, which is now called Serato DJ Lite.

Serato DJ Pro is a free update for all existing Serato DJ users with a license or supported hardware, while Serato DJ Lite is free for everyone.

Serato Sample

Serato has launched the Serato Sample Challenge, a beat-making contest in which the winner will receive a cash prize of $10,000. Yes, you read that right.

How to enter:

1. Create a beat using Serato Sample.

2. Make a video that showcases your beat. It must be less than 60 seconds and show Serato Sample in use.

3. Upload your video to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter and tag #seratosamplechallenge and @seratosample. (Make sure your profile is set to public.) Facebook submissions must be posted on Serato Sample’s Facebook page.

Public voting, which takes place up until the deadline, will determine 10 finalists. (Early entry is encouraged in order to accumulate votes.) Judges Kenny Dope, DJ Spinna, and Suzi Analogue will then select the winner from the final 10 based on musicality and originality.

Launched in July, Serato Sample is a plugin that enables producers to find and manipulate samples in tracks using any DAW that supports VST and AU formats, such as Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Logic Pro.

On this episode of DJcityTV and Beat Refinery​’s Turntable Techniques, Trayze​ explains how to do live redrums with Roland’s DJ-808 controller using its TR-S drum machine and sounds. The technique can be used to beef up sections of tracks that don’t have drums (e.g.: the breakdown).

Serato DJ 1.9.10 Announced

Serato has announced the latest version of its Serato DJ software, 1.9.10.

The update adds support for the newest version of Apple’s macOS operating system, High Sierra, as well as the following new hardware: the Mixars QUATTRO four-channel club mixer and Denon DJ DNX1800 Prime mixer.

The QUATTRO is the first on the market to offer performance pads for all four software decks and is supported natively in 1.9.10.

Denon DJ’s SC5000 Prime player is also an officially supported Serato accessory, providing control of browsing and functions for up to four software decks with a single unit.

1.9.10 is now available to download from Serato’s website.

To demonstrate its power, Recloose live remixed Daryl Hall & John Oates’ timeless classic, “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do).”
