Tips and Tricks

On a new episode of Tips and Tricks, UK DJ/producer Doorly joins Mojaxx to demonstrate Pioneer DJ’s DJS-1000.

Released in October, the DJS-1000 is a standalone DJ sampler and sequencer that serves as a follow-up to the TORAIZ SP-16. While the SP-16 was innovative, Pioneer DJ launched the DJS-1000 with some highly-desired improvements to make it more DJ friendly.

Doorly, who was a longtime user of the SP-16, gives a hands-on look at some of the changes and also explains and how he uses the DJS-1000 in his sets.

Pioneer DJ DDJ-XP1 Review

Pioneer DJ

In September, Pioneer DJ announced the DDJ-XP1 controller, the “spiritual successor” the company’s beloved DDJ-SP1.

The DDJ-XP1 is similar to the SP1 but differs in key two ways. Firstly, it has colored pads, unlike the DDJ-SP1’s monochromatic blue pads. And secondly, and most importantly, the DDJ-XP1 only works with rekordbox dj.

As a MIDI controller, the DDJ-XP1 can connect with any software that supports MIDI mapping, such as Serato DJ. However, if you want the DDJ-SP1’s native functionality, you’ll need to use it with rekordbox dj.

Mr Switch

Mr Switch, a four-time DMC World champion, recently stopped by Pioneer DJ’s DJsounds Show to perform an eclectic mix.

The UK native’s set featured a variety of genres, including hip-hop, trap, electro swing, funk-influenced tracks, and more. He performed with two limited gold PLX-1000-N turntables and a DJM-S9-N mixer.

In 2011, Switch became the first DJ to perform on the BBC Proms, an annual classical music festival held at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Pioneer DJ DJM-S3 Mixer Walkthrough

DJM-S3

Pioneer DJ’s new DJM-S3 mixer is similar to the company’s DJM-250MK2 in many ways, with the main difference being that the S3 is for Serato DJ and the 250MK2 is for rekordbox. Given that Serato DJ is still the preferred DVS software for many DJs, the two-channel S3 is an attractive option for bedroom and battle use.

On this episode of Tips and Tricks, Mojaxx does a hands-on walkthrough of the S3 and compares it with the 250MK2.

A few weeks ago, leaked images appeared online of what looked like a new sampler from Pioneer DJ. Today, the company confirmed the product.

The DJS-1000 is a standalone DJ sampler and sequencer that brings similar technology to that found in the company’s TORAIZ SP-16 to a DJ booth-friendly product. It features step sequencing, 16 multicolored performance pads, and a seven-inch touchscreen. The body of the unit is a similar size and shape to the company’s CDJ-2000NXS2 so that it can be easily accommodated in standard club setups.

The unit can be synchronized with CDJs and XDJs via Pro DJ Link, and also features a tempo slider and nudge buttons for manual beat matching. The unit can also sample live from any input source, enabling DJs to remix tracks on the fly.
