DJames’ Top 5 Carnival Picks 2017

DJames

As Notting Hill Carnival weekend is approaching, DJames has teamed up with DJcity to give us his top 5 carnival picks for 2017. Here’s what DJames had to say: “With Notting Hill Carnival around the corner, check out my 5 favourite tracks to add to your crates this weekend!”

Ultimate Rejects – Full Extreme – DJames Edit
Early 90’s soca vibes on this one from the crew that fuse the sounds of the Caribbean with EDM.

Freezy – Split in Di Middle – DJames Edit
This one has taken a while to really break through, but it’s been huge at every carnival this year.

Konshens – Pull Up To Mi Bumper – DJames Moskato Riddim Edit
For me, the biggest riddim of the past few years blended with a vocal that never fails in the club.

Orange Hill – Wine De Best 2017
DJcity exclusive! New one from my team Orange Hill alongside the boss Ras Kwame and some heavyweight features.

RDX – Shake Your Bam Bam – DJames Acap Intro
This Stalag riddim has been reworked so many times but I’m really feeling this version from RDX!

Watch DJ Jazzy Jeff Make a Track by Sampling Random Records

DJ Jazzy Jeff

After nearly 100 episodes of Rhythm Roulette, Mass Appeal has finally featured DJ Jazzy Jeff. The series is an interesting concept: it challenges producers to select three records while blindfolded and make a beat by sampling them.

Filmed in his Delaware estate during his annual Playlist Retreat, the video shows Jeff picking out the records from the back of a van, and getting busy in the studio using Serato’s new plugin, Sample.

His final track includes an Al Johnson and Jean Carne sample, which was used on Will Smith’s 1997 single, “Just Cruisin’.” It also contains scratching and vocals from Philadelphia rapper, Dayne Jordan.

A Reminder to Back up Your Music Library

Tips and Tricks

Mojaxx planned on reviewing Pioneer DJ’s new INTERFACE 2 this week, but a hard drive crash has set him back. Although he had multiple on-site backups of his music library, some of his other files weren’t backed up on those drives. Thankfully, Mojaxx also has a cloud backup system, and he’s currently downloading the missing files (it’s going to take a LONG time).

On this week’s episode of Tips and Tricks, Mojaxx reminds DJs to back up their libraries and provides a quick overview of how to do it.
