Japan’s renowned turntablist, DJ IKU, celebrates the new year with a fresh hip-hop routine on the latest episode of GENRE BNDR‘s CH419.

The 2010 Red Bull 3Style Japan champion’s new routine features beat juggling, pitch play, scratches, tone play, and wordplay.

DJ MeMo Drops ‘DJcity Podcast’ Mix

Miami-based DJ MeMo has delivered a bass-heavy mix for the DJcity Podcast. The speaker-rattling mix is half an hour of high energy hip-hop, house music, dancehall, and more. It also includes some of his own edits.

The 23-year old kicked off the past year by winning an online DJ battle, building upon other career highlights like spinning alongside Fat Joe, Swizz Beatz, Trippie Redd, and more. Once the pandemic ends, he looks forward to DJing at some of his favorite residencies including Wood Tavern, Pearl Champagne Lounge, Cameo Nightclub, and Martini Bar.

Pioneer DJ Announces DJM-S7 Mixer

Pioneer DJ has announced their latest two-channel battle mixer, the DJM-S7. The unit is geared toward open-format DJs, allowing a range of customization options to tailor the mixer to each individual’s performance style. It also comes in at a more affordable price point than Pioneer DJ’s other two-channel mixers.

The DJM-S7 has the 16 large performance pads (eight per channel) and Magvel fader their battle mixers are known for. Each channel’s pad modes are independent, meaning, for example, deck one’s pads can be set to trigger hot cues while deck two is set to the sample bank.

The effects section includes all 22 Beat FX from the DJM-S11, and the mixer also has Bluetooth connectivity for additional audio routing. Other features borrowed from the DJM-S11 (when used with Serato DJ Pro) are Scratch Bank, Gate Cue, and the aforementioned Combo Pad mode.

Loop MIDI, a new feature exclusive to the DJM-S7, allows DJs to use the effect levers to send MIDI messages to Serato DJ Pro and rekordbox, as a way to control performance features rhythmically.
