Serato Releases Full Version of Serato Studio

After months of beta testing, Serato has released the full version of its Serato Studio beatmaking software. The full release includes features from the beta like Stem Export and Master Deck Waveform, alongside new features such as Master Key Change and in-app tutorials.

Studio users also have access to the Serato Sounds sample library, which is updated monthly with instruments, drum kits, loops, and FX. The Serato Sounds artist series kicks off with a sample pack from legendary producer Just Blaze, which is now available as a free download.

Serato Studio is available via subscription for $14.99 a month or $9.99 a month billed annually.

Ben Billion$ Talks All Things Production on ‘Pensado’s Place’

Multi-platinum producer Ben Billion$ recently sat down with the Pensado’s Place YouTube show.

Based in Miami, Ben is best known for producing hits like Future‘s “Low Life,” Yo Gotti‘s “Down in the DM,” Maroon 5‘s “What Lovers Do,” and The Weeknd‘s “Often.” Most recently, Ben scored placements on DJ Khaled‘s new album Father of Asahd, including “You Stay,” which was one of DJcity’s most downloaded tracks of May.

Ben discussed a number of topics in the interview, such as starting out as an engineer, his signature “low end” sound, his definition of “strip club drums,” using live instrumentation, the importance of being humble, and more.

Kutcorners Shows How to Produce a Remix in Serato Studio

Live Evil

Kutcorners, one half of the DJ/producer duo Live Evil, shows how to produce a remix in Serato Studio on a new episode of DJcityTV’s Behind the Beats series.

The Vancouver native rebuilds Live Evil’s remix of Rich The Kid‘s 2014 track “Why You Mad” layer by layer, highlighting the benefits of Serato Studio along the way.

Serato Studio is the company’s first foray into music production. It launched in March and is currently in beta.

Laidback Luke Breaks Down His Remix of Avicii’s ‘S.O.S.’

Laidback Luke has shared a behind-the-scenes look at his remix of Avicii‘s “S.O.S.” featuring Aloe Blacc.

“S.O.S.” is the first single off of the late producer’s forthcoming album, TIM. It was DJcity’s most-downloaded track of April. Luke’s remix puts a big room spin on Avicii’s poppy, tropical house sound.

In the video, Luke gives a layer-by-layer breakdown of his remix in Ableton. He discusses the synthesizers, drum samples, and plug-ins he uses, and ends with an overview of his mastering process.

Serato Reopens Serato Studio Beta, Adds New Features

After putting it on hold due to high demand, Serato has reopened the beta for its Serato Studio beatmaking software. The company has also added several highly-requested features, including Master Track Waveform, Library Preview, Stem Export, and more.

“Since launching the first beta we’ve been busy gathering feedback on Studio and channeling that into development,” Nick Maclaren, chief strategy officer at Serato, said in the press release. “Serato Studio is constantly evolving as we continue to build it with the community.”

In addition to the software update, Serato has announced pricing for Studio. Subscribers will be able to access Studio for $14.99 a month or $9.99 a month billed annually.

“Our model is built on regular software updates, which means subscribers get a continuous flow of new features and workflow improvements,” says Maclaren. “You’ll also get monthly sound pack drops from renowned producers like Just Blaze, through to world-class sound designers and labels.”

In the meantime, Serato has made the Dusty Crates sound pack available as a free download for all beta members. It contains almost a GB of soul, funk, and R&B influenced instruments and samples.

Mixed In Key Releases Studio Edition Plugin

Mixed In Key Studio Edition

Music software developer Mixed In Key has released the Studio Edition plugin. Aimed at music producers, the award-winning key detection program works from within a DAW to analyze sounds and samples.

Mixed In Key Studio Edition is officially supported by Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Apple Logic. It is compatible with Mac OS and Windows operating systems.
