At this year’s PLAYLIST Retreat, six of the attendees were selected to compete in an impromptu DJ battle. Nick Bike, EASE, DJ Jaycee, Trayze, DJ BYTE, and Damianito competed to win a pair of Rane TWELVE controllers and a Rane SEVENTY-TWO mixer. The battle was hosted by DJ Zimmie, and the judges chose EASE as the winner.
Each contestant was given a USB drive with a selection of songs from which they had to build their sets. This meant that the DJs had to come up with new routines, as opposed to relying on material from previous battles.
DJ set times:
Nick Bike: 1:40
DJ Jaycee: 11:17
DJ BYTE: 23:35

EASE, the 2017 Red Bull 3Style U.S. champion, dropped a guest mix on Shade 45’s Sway in the Morning show on Monday. The 46-minute set featured a variety of classic and current hip-hop, including tracks off EASE’s solo album, Kodax Kids. An award-winning turntablist, EASE also put his scratch skills on display.
DJ EASE has uploaded his winning set from the Red Bull 3Style U.S. Finals, which took place in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 28.
A former four-time DMC regional champion, EASE went up against Boi Jeanius, DJ FingerSmith, Bo, DJ Diggy Dutch, and DJ Frazier Davis. His well-crafted set consisted of mostly hip-hop, bass music, and reggae.
EASE had previously competed in the 2016 U.S. finals, which Trayze won.
