Big Once, the 2011 Red Bull 3Style US champion, has thrown down a unique mix for the DJcity podcast. The Chicago native’s 32-minute set contains drum and bass, house, hip-hop, and more. Also included are four of his own productions.
Big Once tells DJcity:
“My entire career I’ve been known as a dude who takes chances and does things a little differently. I’ve never fit into the mainstream club/top 40 box, but all my DJ heroes didn’t either. Individuality used to be what set us apart as performers, but sadly I think a lot of that individuality is lost in today’s DJ world. My goal with this mix was to do something different: highlight some dope records on DJcity that you probably missed, flip stuff you do know into something new, and introduce the DJcity community to some of the weird sh#t that I like. There’s so much dope music out there. Hopefully, this mix inspires listeners to dig a little deeper. Enjoy!”Tracklist:

Watch Big Once Pay Tribute to DJ Timbuck2

Last Wednesday, friends and fans gathered to celebrate the life of the late DJ Timbuck2 in Chicago. The tribute concert featured some of Chi-Town’s best DJs, including former Red Bull Thre3style US Champ, Big Once, whose set is now available on YouTube.
Timothy Francis Jones, better known as DJ Timbuck2, lost a battle with cancer on December 19 at the age of 34-years-old. Timbuck2 had worked with Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Jay Z and many more.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Big Once and Trentino aka BOAT, but today the Chicago DJ duo laced us with a video. Their new four-and-a-half-minute routine is based on the vocal and instrumental samples used in Oliver $ & Jimi Jules’ “Pushing On,” which was later remixed by Tchami. Like true pros, Once and Trentino use scratching, juggling, effects and even live percussion to flip the samples into something completely new.

Big Once Juggles Kanye West’s ‘Black Skinhead’

Last month, Chicago’s Big Once and Trentino joined forces and formed a group called BOAT. In the latest video for their YouTube channel, Big Once (RedBull’s 2011 Thre3style US Champion) shows off his juggling skills with Kanye West’s single, “Black Skinhead.”

Last month, DJcity TV aired its first episode of the “Cutting Room” starring DJs from outside California. Now, the Windy City gets a chance to shine in our latest episode. We’re not picking favorites but this might be our best episode yet!
The four minute scratch session features Chicago’s Boi Jeanius (103.5 Kiss FM), Flipside (Jump Smokers, B96), Big Once (US Red Bull Thre3style champ), Maddjazz and Trentino (103.5 Kiss FM, Midwest Red Bull Thre3style champ) getting wild on the decks. The instrumental is “Ya’ll Can’t Mess with Chicago” by Jump Smokers.
