SoundCloud has announced that it has expanded its revenue sharing program to include to DJs and producers.

The SoundCloud Premier program, as it’s called, enables content creators to earn revenue generated from subscriptions and advertising on the platform.

According to the company’s blog:

“Beginning today, DJs and producers who create sets, remixes and other forms of creative works will now be invited to join our SoundCloud Premier program, and earn revenue for the tracks they share on SoundCloud.”

There’s one catch, though: the program is currently invite-only. However, SoundCloud says that it’s increasing the number of people invited every day.

Watch Scram Jones’ Routine for Hot 97’s ‘5 Minutes of Funk’

Scram Jones

Scram Jones, a veteran DJ, producer, and rapper from New York, stopped by Hot 97 to perform a routine on Funkmaster Flex’s new “5 Minutes of Funk” segment.

Similar to Flex’s “Freestyle” series for rappers, “5 Minutes of Funk” gives DJs the opportunity to show off their skills. Previous guests include Statik Selektah and DJ Fatfingaz.

Scram began his scratch-heavy set with throwbacks, including a tone play of Kraftwerk’s “Trans-Europe Express.” Then, after dropping newer hip-hop tracks, Scram finished with a political statement, using DJ Primetyme’s edit of YG and Nipsey Hussle’s “FDT Part 2.”

69Beats Shares Advice on How to Create a Thre3style Routine

69Beats

69Beats
69Beats performs at the Red Bull Thre3style World Final in Santiago, Chile on Dec. 16, 2016. (Alfred Jürgen Westermeyer/Red Bull)

69Beats, the 2016 Red Bull Thre3style Poland Champion, has shared some advice on how to create a Thre3style routine. The 28-year-old DJ has been inspired to help beginner DJs as the submission process for this year’s competition approaches.

In a lengthy message posted to Facebook and YouTube, 69Beats broke down his “Fire Story” sequence, which he performed at last year’s world finals. The sequence is based on “storytelling,” a technique in which a DJ strings together multiple “word plays” to tell a story.

“Storytelling is nothing new in [the] DJ world,” 69Beats wrote on Facebook. “There are many, many sets with many different approaches to storytelling. For me storytelling was a natural ‘level-up’ from just simple word play.”

He continued: “While preparing for Thre3style 2016 I wanted to take [it] a little further for myself so instead of just mixing tracks with the same phrases I started collecting tracks that had the same theme and doing bigger combos of them. And while [I was] collecting ‘fire’ themed songs I started to see that some of them [were] actualy [sic] creating a sequence of events and decided to make a full routine based on that.”

69Beats also wanted the routine to be veristile [sic] as possible. “The whole sequence is flavoured with as many different techniques as possible – scratching, juggling, tone playing/pitch playing, fingerdrumming [sic], cue point drumming etc.”

Watch the sequence and read his in-depth breakdown below.

Numark Announces NS6II Controller and NTX1000 Turntable

Numark NS6II

Numark NS6II

Numark announced two new additions to their DJ hardware lineup on Monday: The NS6II controller and the NTX1000 turntable.

The original NS6 was one of the first pro-level four-channel controllers for Serato software. However, although it is still supported in Serato DJ today, the hardware is a little dated by comparison to the rest of Numark’s range. With the new version, the NS6II is brought to the cutting edge, while retaining a similar size and feature set to the popular original.

The NS6II’s highlights include dual USB ports for easy DJ switchovers and displays in the jog wheels that provide track and playhead info. It will be available in the summer for $699.

NS6II key features

– Two USB ports for DJ handoffs or multiple computer connections
– Two color LCD track status displays for each jog wheel
– Capacitive touch knobs for instant effects and EQ kills
– Four channels with filter knobs and filter effects
– Roll bar to protect front panel control knobs
– Stand-alone digital mixing 24-bit, 44.1k audio (no computer required)
– Two stereo RCA inputs with DVS-ready phono preamp
– Two dedicated quarter-inch mic inputs with EQ
– Balanced XLR outputs, RCA booth outputs, and master outputs
– Class-compliant drivers (plug-and-play)
– Includes Serato DJ (full version)

Numark NTX1000

The other product that debuted on Monday is an unexpected new addition to the vinyl turntable market: The NTX1000. Taking design cues from classic Numark products like the NS7 and TTX turntables, the NTX1000 promises pro-level performance at an affordable price.

It includes features that you would expect in a pro turntable in 2017, such as variable pitch range up to +/-50%, and adjustable start and stop times. The 2.5 pound platter and 4.0 KGF/CM direct drive motor are intended to work together to give solid, stable performance. The deck body is designed to resist vibration in professional environments.

Priced at just $399 a piece, the NTX1000 has the potential to shake up the turntable scene in a big way. Look out for a review on DJcityTV as soon as it arrives in Q3 2017.

NTX1000 key features

– Full-size 12-inch 2.5 pound platter ensures rock-steady speed accuracy
– Professional 4.0 KGF/CM high-torque motor
– Two-speed design: 33 1/3 and 45 RPM
– S-shaped tonearm for accurate tracking
– Damped cueing and anti-skate control
– Adjustable pitch range: ±8%, 16%, 50%
– Start and stop brake controls
– Dust cover
– Switchable power: 100~230V, 50~60Hz
