Pioneer DJ Announces DJM-S3 Mixer and DDJ-SR2 Controller
Pioneer DJ has announced two new products: a two-channel battle mixer called the DJM-S3 and an upgrade to their portable DDJ-SR1 Serato DJ controller.
DJM-S3 mixer
The DJM-S3 has a scratch-friendly layout with a durable Magvel crossfader, which is taken from the DJM-900NXS2 mixer. It also inherits a built-in sound card from the DJM-S9, making it Serato DJ- and DVS-enabled. Other key features include independent channel filters and two headphone outputs.
DDJ-SR2 controller
The DDJ-SR2 includes the latest features in Serato DJ, including the Pitch ‘n Time DJ Expansion Pack, for which it has dedicated hardware controls. It is 18 percent lighter than its predecessor and comes with multicolored performance pads.
The DJM-S3 and DDJ-SR2 will be available in September with a suggested retail price of $499 and $699, respectively.

DJcity, SiriusXM, and Pitbull Launch Contest to Find ‘Globalization’ Mixer
SiriusXM, Pitbull, and DJcity have launched a contest to find an on-air mixer for a new show on Pitbull’s Globalization channel, which can be heard on SiriusXM channel 13.
The winner will be awarded a paid, one-year mix show on Fridays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. PT. They will also get a Pioneer DJ DJM-S9 mixer and Serato license pack.
The contest, which is open to U.S. residents only, will begin with an online submission process. Entries will be judged on technique, creativity, and music selection, and must be submitted no later than Sept. 19, 2017. DJcity will select five finalists, and Pitbull will choose the winner. The finalists and winner will be announced on Sept. 25. and 27, respectively.
Launched on SiriusXM by Pitbull in May 2015, Pitbull’s Globalization takes listeners on a “musical journey of rhythm around the world.” Its daily mixers include Big Syphe (Pitbull’s former DJ), DJ Rawn (former Power 106 mixer), and DJcity’s Kidd Spin and DJ Santarosa. Other mixers include BBC 1Xtra’s MistaJam, Mad Decent’s SpydaT.E.K, and KIIS FM’s DJ Drew.

Watch: Fat Joe Hangs out at DJcity
Last week, Fat Joe stopped by DJcity’s office in Los Angeles to catch up and show appreciation for the DJs. Unlike his first trip to DJcity, this time we invited a few of our DJ friends. Joe told us about his new single “So Excited” featuring Dre, and his upcoming projects. He also caught a scratch session with some of LA’s finest.

Watch Mr. Carmack Make a Track by Sampling Random Records
Mass Appeal has featured DJ/producer Mr. Carmack in their latest episode of Rhythm Roulette. The series challenges producers to make a beat by sampling three randomly selected vinyl records.
The San Francisco native first heads to Good Records in New York City before hitting the studio alongside rapper Adam Vida. He then delivers two groovy glitch-style beats, only using sounds from the records he picks out. Impressively, one of the samples he chops up is the call of an elephant trumpeting.
Carmack is a member of the production cliques Team Supreme and Soulection. He’s best known for his unique trap-infused sounds, which includes releases on the Mad Decent label. The influential producer has worked with Pharrell, Diplo, Kehlani, and Promnite.
