Should DJs Use Twitch to Live Stream?

Twitch

With the growing popularity of live streaming, DJs who want to showcase their skills have several platforms to choose from. DJcityTV’s Mojaxx recently caught up with Vekked, the Canadian turntablist with seven world DJ championships to his name, to discuss the advantages of using Twitch to live stream.

While Twitch is most popular among the gaming community, Vekked uses it to teach DJ lessons on subjects like scratching, beat juggling, and putting together a battle routine. He prefers Twitch because it is more interactive than other platforms.

Watch Mo and Vekked’s discussion on this week’s episode of Tips & Tricks.

Getahead to Launch in London – 24 Hour Festival of the Head

Getahead Festival

The modern world is full of abundant choice and opportunity, but all too often this is resulting in burn-out. Striking the right balance is something that has dogged the DJ world for as long as it has existed, and recent tragic events with Avicii’s suicide have shone a bright light on that. In the last few years, mental health has been spoken about far more openly, but there is still much work to be done on avoiding these issues, or helping those already suffering.

Getahead is a collaboration between Daniel Kirby of Techdept, and AEI Group (home of UKF, Drum & Bass Arena, Subsoul and The Sound You Need amongst others), with a shared vision of helping people get ahead in life without burning out.

Constant travel, lack of sleep, bad diet, not enough exercise, the ready availability of things to take away sobriety, distance from your loved ones when you need support… a few years of this can be dangerous if you aren’t taking care of yourself!

On Wednesday June 13th from 6am to 6am, Omeara will host a 24 hour series of raves, events, panels, workshops and more – all centred around equipping people with the tools to navigate the hectic modern world and find success, without risking their own health along the way. Obviously don’t try to go to it all – it’s a pick n mix format to work around people’s busy lives.

A morning sober rave is kicking things off, with a more traditional rave closing proceedings – Ben Verse of Pendulum fame has curated a fantastic D&B line up for the main room, with Carly Wilford hosting room 2, and DJ Santero hosting the 3rd room with Stanton Warriors, Sam Young aka Vanilla Ace, Tim Cullen, Dr Mood Swing, Alex Session and Bowler, as well as one more EXTREMELY special guest DJ who I sadly can’t name for contractual reasons! BBC Radio 1Xtra’s DJ Melody Kane is bring her “No Kane No Gain” fitness session to the day sessions, and there’s all sorts of stuff on offer besides this.

As well as the rave, Ben Verse has compiled a stunning D&B album, MIND STATE Vol 1, featuring exclusive tracks from Chase & Status, The Prodigy, Sub Focus, Spor, D-Bridge, and more – with several of the artists from the album slated to perform at Getahead.

Tickets are available HERE.

Shout out to DJ Santero for sharing the festival’s details with us and watch the official Getahead Festival video below.

First Look: Allen & Heath’s Xone:96 Mixer

Xone:96

Xone:96

After weeks of teasing, Allen & Heath have announced its new Xone:96 club mixer.

The successor to the much-loved Xone:92, which has been on the market for 15 years, the 96 sticks to the template set by that classic model. However, it includes many new features aimed at integrating it into today’s digital DJ world.

The 96 retains the analog sound, four band EQ, and filters of the 92, but adds a pair of 32 bit 96 kHz soundcards, which are DVS compatible. The mixer is already supported in the latest version of Traktor Scratch.

There is a second independent headphone cue circuit, allowing two DJs to perform on the mixer at the same time, and extra return channels for advanced effects routing.

Crossfader users will be pleased to hear that the 96 ships with a Mini innoFADER, which means the mixer is a lot more usable for scratching than the 92.

The 96 will be available in August with a suggested retail price of $1,999. More details can be found on Allen & Heath’s website.
