The Samples Behind Kanye West’s ‘The College Dropout’

Following a look at Ghostface Killah’s Supreme Clientele earlier this week, Power 106‘s Wax Only series is back to examine Kanye West‘s debut album, The College Dropout.

Released in 2004, College Dropout has sold over four million copies worldwide. It also received 10 Grammy nominations, winning Best Rap Album.

The album featured five singles: “Slow Jamz,” which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, “Jesus Walks,” which won a Grammy for Best Rap Song, “Through the Wire,” “All Falls Down,” and “The New Workout Plan.”

Wax Only is a series that showcases samples used on classic hip-hop albums. It is hosted by Power 106’s Production Director, Vin Rican.

9 O’clock Live Remixes Schoolboy Q and Kanye West’s ‘That Part’

Three-time DMC World Team Champions 9 O’clock have lived remixed Schoolboy Q and Kanye West‘s single “That Part” in a new video.

The track was the 33rd most downloaded song on DJcity in May and peaked at number 40 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in August.

Dstrukt, a former DMC and Red Bull Thre3style regional finalist, has performed his “I Heart Kanye” routine in a new video for DJcityTV. The Bay Area native used the wireless Mixfader and edjing Scratch app for the performance.

Kanye West premiered the music video for his single “Fade” at the MTV VMAs on Sunday night. The visual stars R&B singer Teyana Taylor, who’s signed to Kanye’s GOOD Music label. It also features a cameo from Cleveland Cavaliers player, Iman Shumpert, who’s married to Taylor.

Kanye West has partnered with French fashion brand Balmain on a video for “Wolves,” his 2015 track featuring Vic Mensa and Sia.

According to a report from Vogue, the visual is part of Balmain’s fall 2016 campaign, which stars Kanye. The captivating video also includes cameos from Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Cindy Crawford, among other models.
