TY1

Italian turntablist/producer TY1 has put down a routine for DJcityTV’s Bedroom Sessions. The former ITF Italy champion flips Valentino Khan‘s track “Pump” and Nicki Minaj‘s “Only.”

After finding success in the battle circuit, the Bologna native made a name for himself as a producer. In 2016, he released his full-length album Hardship. He has also collaborated with artists from across the globe, including Major Lazer‘s Walshy Fire on the track “Bow Chi Bow.”

Brazilian DJ/producer duo Tropkillaz have assembled an all-star cast for a baile funk crossover, “Bola Rebola.” The track, which roughly translates to “shake” in English, features Colombia’s J Balvin and Brazil’s Anitta and MC Zaac.

With its Afro-Brazilian rhythms and trilingual vocals, “Bola Rebola” has the potential for global appeal.

“[The song is] really representative of Brazilian/baile funk music and shows our culture can crossover with different genres,” Tropkillaz told Complex.

The Tropkillaz signed with Universal Music Group in 2018 after achieving mainstream success in Brazil and building a strong reputation in the global DJ scene. They have since released a variety of singles, including “Milk & Honey” with Aloe Blacc, and “Loko” with Major Lazer, MC Kevinho, and Busy Signal. “Milk & Honey” was one of DJcity’s most downloaded tracks of March.

Mannie Fresh Breaks Down the Making of Juvenile’s ‘Back That Azz Up’

Mannie Fresh

In 1999, New Orleans rapper Juvenile burst onto the national scene with his raunchy club anthem, “Back That Azz Up.” The track, which was produced by the legendary Mannie Fresh, introduced New Orleans bounce music to the world. It peaked at No. 19 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and has remained a staple in DJ sets throughout the years.

With the 20th anniversary of “Back That Azz Up” this month, Mannie sat down with Genius to discuss the making of the track. He also talked about his background and approach to producing.

“[‘Back That Azz Up’] stood the test of time,” Mannie said. “I don’t see it going nowhere.”

“The way I produce is definitely from a club DJ’s perspective,” Mannie added. “I like it when people dance; I like it when they move. And I notice certain sounds, the way certain drops happen in songs, and [how] the way [producers] format [them] [make] a difference on the dance floor.”
