zedd katy perry

Katy Perry plays an obsessive robot in the video for her Zedd-produced single, “365.” The track, which was released last Thursday, is their first collaboration together.

The visual shows robot Katy Perry and human Zedd living together as part of an experiment. Perry malfunctions after she develops feelings for Zedd but finds out he doesn’t love her back.

“365” follows Zedd’s 2018 single “Happy Now” with singer Elley Duhe. Perry’s last release was 2017’s “Swish Swish” featuring Nicki Minaj.

DJ Spider Talks DJing at Sundance Film Festival

In January, DJ Spider performed at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. In addition to playing a number of premier parties, he also spoke on a panel about music in film. Forbes sat down with the LA native to talk about what it’s like DJing at the festival.

On how he prepares for Sundance:

“I prepare for each party in depth ahead of time, but I also freestyle everything once I’m playing. I’ve been doing Sundance every year since 2006, so I have a lot of pre-planned mixes and routines I’ve developed over time that I can incorporate in my sets. I also just make things up depending on the crowd reaction and what is needed at the party at any given moment.”

On how the movies influence his sets:

“I usually talk to someone from the movie before the premiere to get an idea of what type of music they want. Sometimes it’s the producer, director, music supervisor or occasionally some of the actors who reach out. Next, I take their input, riff off it and play music that flows well with the stuff they requested.”

Spider is set to appear at the Beyond the Music Retreat, going down in Colorado from March 4 to 6. Other panelists at the retreat include DJ Vice, A-Trak, Miles Medina, and Justin Credible. Register for the retreat here (hotel packages are available).

SoundCloud Adds Distribution Feature to Premier Program

SoundCloud

SoundCloud

SoundCloud announced on Tuesday that it has added a distribution feature to its SoundCloud Premier monetization program. The feature enables participants to distribute their music on all major music streaming services, including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music.

Launched in 2018, SoundCloud Premier enables artists to earn money from their original music on SoundCloud. The program’s new distribution feature takes it a step further by opening up outside revenue streams. It means that SoundCloud is now a distributor in addition to a streaming service.

According to the company’s press release:

“Creators using the SoundCloud Premier distribution feature keep 100% of their rights, keep 100% of their distribution royalties from third-party services, and at no additional cost.”

SoundCloud is now the second major streaming service to enable artists to distribute their original music on other platforms. In October, Spotify announced that it had teamed up with DistroKid to offer distribution as part of its Spotify for Artists program.

SoundCloud’s distribution feature is currently in beta. Learn more about it here.
