SUNBURN Pool Lounge Launches “SUNBURN DJ Battle 2020”

San Diego’s SUNBURN Pool Lounge has announced its “SUNBURN DJ Battle 2020.” The winner will get a headlining set at the pool, flight and hotel accommodations, and a guest DJ spot on SUNBURN Radio on Pitbull’s Globalization channel on SiriusXM.

To enter, contestants must shoot an engaging 5-minute video representing their best pool party DJ set. Next, upload the video to IGTV with the title formatted as follows: “DJ Name – #SUNBURNDJBattle,” tagging @sunburnpool and @therostermgmt in the Instagram post. Then, fill out and submit the SUNBURN DJ Battle 2020 entry form here. Entries may be submitted until May 7.

The top ten qualifiers will be contacted via email and asked to record a second 5-minute set and upload it to Instagram between May 8 and 13. Two finalists will be selected, who will then go head-to-head on SUNBURN’s Instagram Live on May 16.

French DJ/Production Trio VACARM Premieres Debut Track “Pili Pili”

French DJ/production trio VACARM has released their debut track “Pili Pili.” Comprised of turntablists Fong Fong, Mart One, and TomFat, the track features heavy choral influences, scratches, and trap-styled breaks.

For the past year, the trio has been perfecting their unique style of performance, which highlights the talents of all three behind the decks. Fong Fong was the 2012 DMC Online World Champion, Mart One is a former member of the Scratch Bandits Crew, and TomFat is a producer supported by the likes of David Guetta and more.

Watch DJ Powerdog’s ‘Bedroom Sessions’ Routine

Toronto-based turntablist DJ Powerdog has delivered a creative routine for DJcityTV’s Bedroom Sessions. His five-minute performance features hip-hop, trap, and twerk mixed together with clever wordplay and scratching.

Originally from Siberia, Powerdog established himself opening for artists and holding down club residencies all over Russia. He relocated to Toronto in 2014 and has become a fixture in the city’s nightlife scene with his club residencies, working private parties for Drake‘s OVO label, and competing in the Red Bull 3Style X Canada National Finals.

Watch: ‘Inside Turntablists’ Puts a Spotlight on Jimmy Penguin

British creative collective Boom City is back with a new episode of their documentary series, Inside Turntablists. This episode features Jimmy Penguin, an Irish turntablist and producer. He’s one of the co-founders of Galway’s Community Skratch collective and also runs the Alkalinear Recordings label.

In the episode, Penguin discusses how he’s inspired by more progressive records, like those by English musician Aphex Twin. He also highlights his deceptively simple techniques, plus how he’s successfully built both his career and the musical community that surrounds his work.
