For decades, musicians have been using “talk boxes” to manipulate their vocals. In 1980, Roger Troutman used one on Zapp’s funk anthem, “More Bounce to the Ounce.” The song ended up being sampled on numerous hip-hop tracks, most notably 2Pac’s “California Love.”

Talk boxes have also been employed by turntablists, including Teeko and Red Bull 3Style world champion, Damianito. The latest to use the device is four-time DMC Australia champion, B.TWO. The Melbourne native has shared a video of himself performing his original track “How I Feel (Don’t Leave Me)” using a talk box, turntable, mixer, and two synths.
