DJ Jazzy Jeff & Skratch Bastid Rehearsing at the Red Bull Thre3style US Finals

Last week, Serato blessed fans with a beautifully shot video of DJ Jazzy Jeff performing his classic “Peter Piper” routine. They also shared an interview in which Jeff praised his fellow DJs ESKEI83 and Skratch Bastid for their efforts in moving the art forward.

Jeff matched his words with action last night, though, by joining Skratch for a performance at the Red Bull Thre3style US Finals in Arizona. A video of their set isn’t available, but thankfully Jeff hooked us up with an exclusive video of them rehearsing at Club Red.

If you’re in or near Phoenix tonight, check out the final round of the Thre3style US Finals at The Pressroom. Doors open at 9 p.m.

Run DMC’s 1986 song “Peter Piper” is one of the greatest hip-hop tracks, not to mention greatest odes to DJ culture, of all-time. The opener of their blockbuster album, Raising Hell, also contains a sample of Bob James’ “Take Me to the Mardi Gras,” which has since been used in countless hip-hop tracks.

With all this in mind, it only makes sense that DJ Jazzy Jeff built a routine around the classic. Although he’s been performing it since the early ’90s, Serato has released a new high-definition video of Jeff rocking the routine at their headquarters in Auckland, New Zealand.

Watch below as Jeff delivers razor-sharp cuts using Serato DJ with a Rane Sixty-Two mixer, two Pioneer PLX-1000 turntables, and a DDJ-SP1 controller. An interview with Jeff was also released, in which he discusses the early days of Serato, Red Bull Thre3Style, and more.

About a year ago, DJ Jazzy Jeff visited DJcity and put down an epic performance for our “MikiDz Show.” The legend delivered over an hour of classic and new music, along with an insightful interview with the show’s hosts, MikiWAR and Dainjazone. Thousands of fans from around the world watched the live stream, which has since received over 200,000 plays.

Today, Jeff premiered the third season of his “Vinyl Destination” series, and part of it documents his experience at DJcity. The episode also chronicles last year’s “Hip-Hop Legends” concert in New York City, which included performances by The Roots, Run DMC, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, and others.

Like previous episodes, this one includes plenty of behind-the-scenes footage of Jeff and his crew, along with a few jokes and special cameos. The part about DJcity starts at around the 11-minute mark. Watch it below.

Four Color Zack Recruits A-Trak, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Craze and Others for Funny Promo Video

Anyone who’s familiar with Four Color Zack knows that he doesn’t take himself too seriously, except for his DJing, of course. And his new promotional video is the ultimate testament to that, as it’s essentially a comedy roast followed by a brief montage of performances and shenanigans. You know you’ve made it big when legends like A-Trak, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Craze, and Mannie Fresh take time out of their day to diss you.

Watch Skratch Bastid & Z-Trip Perform at DJ Jazzy Jeff’s Birthday Party

DJ Jazzy Jeff recently celebrated his 50th birthday and had some of his friends perform at the party. In the video clip above, watch Skratch Bastid and Z-Trip throw down a few classics during an improvised set which also included scratching. The video quality isn’t very good (it was filmed with an iPhone) but it’s always cool to see these guys rock together.
