Charlie Sloth Leaves BBC for Apple Music

Charlie Sloth, one of the leading hip-hop radio DJs in the UK, has announced that he’s leaving BBC Radio for Apple Music.

Sloth, who has been with the network for a decade, has hosted shows on Radio 1 and 1Xtra. His rap freestyle segment “Fire in the Booth” is globally renowned. The segment has featured appearances from Drake, Stormzy, Big Shaq, and many more.

It hasn’t been revealed what his role at Apple Music will be, but there is speculation that he will be hosting a new show on Beats 1 and contributing to the platform’s playlists.

Sloth isn’t the only BBC host to leave for Apple Music. In 2015, Zane Lowe departed the network to launch a show on Beats 1.

After almost 10 years of dedicating my life to BBC radio 1xtra & Radio 1 and achieving everything I set out to I’ve decided the time has come to leave the BBC and seek a new challenge. I want to thank everybody who has listened to me over the years and supported me in everything I have done I love you and the journey continues. Craig David returned to BBC 1Xtra’s Live Lounge last week to perform his new single “When the Bassline Drops” with Big Narstie. The legendary R&B singer also sang a cover of Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself,” which went viral just like his version of “Where Are Ü Now” in September. A week after premiering it on MistaJam’s BBC 1Xtra show, Craig David and English Grime artist Big Narstie have released their collab “When the Bassline Drops.” The 132 BPM song features David’s soulful vocals and a verse from Narstie over a UK garage instrumental. It’s unclear whether the track will appear on David’s forthcoming album, Following My Intuition, which he announced last week.

R&B legend Craig David has released an official version of his “Fill Me In” and “Where Are U Now” blend exclusively through DJcity.
 
The British singer made headlines last week after he sang the 2000 classic over the instrumental of Jack U’s hit during Kurupt FM’s takeover on BBC Radio 1Xtra. A video clip of him singing the blend was shared by Diplo, Justin Bieber, Scooter Braun, and numerous blogs.

BBC Radio 1 celebrated 20 years of throwing parties in Ibiza last weekend. The star-studded event, which was attended by DJcity’s DJ Phenom, featured sets from superstars Calvin Harris and Disclosure and Radio 1 personalities Pete Tong, Annie Mac, and MistaJam.
 
Thankfully, we got our hands on a live recording of MistaJam’s performance at Cafe Mambo, which featured an hour of new and classic house. It was one of the best sets that Phenom saw during the weekend and we’re excited to share it with you.
