Teeko

Teeko

There have been a few standout performances on DJcity’s MikiDz Show over the years, but Monday’s episode with Teeko was one of the most innovative. The Bay Area native’s set featured skilled turntablism, soulful instrumentation, and raps from special guest Aziz the Shake. Teeko’s setup was also unorthodox, as it consisted of a Vestax Controller One turntable, Native Instruments Z2 mixer and F1 controller, Roland Gaia synth, and talk box. There’s a reason why legends like DJ Jazzy Jeff, A-Trak, and Shortkut have praised Teeko, and on Monday he showed it once again.

Acclaimed turntablist and producer Teeko will make his debut appearance on DJcity’s MikiDz Show on Monday, September 19.

While most famous turntablists are known for their skills, Teeko is also renowned for his creative approach to DJing.

“Teeko is a constant innovator, one of the rare DJs who pushes boundaries of what turntables can do musically,” A-Trak has said. Shortkut described him as “one of the few people that’s doing what I envisioned what the next step in turntable music would be.”

Teeko is also recognized for his sense of rhythm, with DJ Jazzy Jeff calling him “the funkiest most soulful turntablist I’ve ever seen.”

The live stream will begin at 7 p.m. PST and include opening and closing sets from hosts MikiWAR and DJ Dainjazone.

DJ Neil Armstrong

DJ Neil Armstrong

On Monday, veteran DJ and mixtape legend Neil Armstrong performed the first-ever all-vinyl set on DJcity’s MikiDz Show.

Equipped with dozens of records, Armstrong reminded DJs of what it was like in the pre-Serato days. He also schooled viewers on the art of sampling, by playing classic tracks back-to-back with the hip-hop hits that sampled them. It was a journey through music history.

Armstrong’s interview with hosts MikiWAR and DJ Dainjazone was just as interesting. The New York native discussed his legendary mixtapes, what it was like being Jay Z’s tour DJ, Shortkut’s influence on him, among other topics.

Four Color Zack

It’s been a great year for DJcity’s MikiDz Show so far. Since January, we’ve featured legends like Craze and Just Blaze and new generation icons like Vekked and ESKEI83. On Monday, we added yet another heavyweight to the list: Four Color Zack. As usual, the former Red Bull Thre3style World Champ served up a variety of genres, laced together with creative tone play and word play. Included in his selection were some of our favorite trap and future bass heaters, along with unreleased tracks by him and Craze.

A-Trak Is Organizing a New DJ Competition

A-Trak

A-Trak has revealed that he’s organizing a new DJ and beat battle that will take place later this year. The Fool’s Gold boss made the announcement during Craze‘s appearance on DJcity’s MikiDz Show on Monday night.

“[Turntablism] is not old school. It’s not some shit from the old heads or whatever,” A-Trak said. “There’s ways to do it with the sonics of music that’s current. We all listen to new music, we all play new music, and the new routines are updated to fit with the new shit, and I think the battle world needs to adapt to that too.”

A-Trak added that Craze, Four Color Zack and “all the other homies” would judge the battle.

Craze, who was standing next to A-Trak during the announcement, described what to expect from him as a judge. “I’m gonna be the Simon Cowell of that shit,” he said with a grin. “I’ll be like, ‘you’re not supposed to be out here. What are you doing?'”

A-Trak said he would reveal more details about the competition in the next couple of months.

Watch the announcement below and stay tuned for video of Craze’s set and interview.
