DJcity fan favorite Rogerson has linked up with fellow Dutch producer Ray Montreal to flip Blackstreet‘s 1996 classic “No Diggity.” The Teddy Riley-produced track, which features Dr. Dre, hit the top spot on charts around the globe and has been certified platinum in the US, UK, and New Zealand.

“Me and Ray know each other for some time already, but we never did a musical collaboration,” Rogerson says. “After he asked me for feedback on his ‘No Diggity’ remix, we decided to combine forces. The R&B vibe really fits in modern house music, as it sounds tough and cool. On top of my bassline, we added Ray’s type of drum groove, which he uses on all his tracks. That’s what made the perfect picture.”

Rogerson Remixes Major Lazer’s ‘Bam Bam’: DJcity Exclusive

Dutch DJ/producer Rogerson has delivered a remix of Major Lazer‘s “Bam Bam,” featuring French Montana and BEAM. This DJcity exclusive goes into tech-house territory with a pumping bassline.

The original track is from Music Is the Weapon,  Major Lazer’s just-released fourth album. It marks three years since hip-hop hitmaker Montana and the tropical bass trio collaborated on “Leg Over” featuring Mr. Eazi and Ty Dolla $ign. That song received the Nigeria Entertainment Award for “Hottest Single of the Year.”

“I was searching for a song that I could remix, when ‘Bam Bam’ took my eyes, as it was on #1 in the record pool,” Rogerson says. “It already had the Afro-type vibe that I like, but I wanted to combine that with some full tech-house sounds. I had to find the right way to transition between the styles, but I’m very pleased with the result!”

Dutch duo Da Phonk and Rogerson‘s latest remix is a funky take on Jason Derulo‘s horn-heavy 2013 hit “Talk Dirty.” The duo’s latest DJcity exclusive remix maintains the groove of the original track while adding some fun moombahton flavor to the mix.

“We gave this classic banger a pumping 2020 touch with some fresh moombahton percussions, [and] groovy basslines!” the duo says. “Going back and forth on what was best for the track, we decided to keep a bit of the original beats just after the intro and create a heavy build-up towards a massive drop.” Rogerson continues, “We felt [like] keeping that original renowned saxophone melody and chopping it up a bit so the drop would really drive the energy at a higher level.”

Dutch DJ/producer Rogerson has returned with another remix exclusive for DJcity. Bay area rap duo Luniz‘s iconic 1995 hit “I Got 5 On It” gets a high-energy reworking, with the soulful hook providing the emotion for this peak-hour house banger.

“I Got 5 On It” was Luniz’ biggest song. The smoker’s anthem was a platinum-seller, plus a top-ten single on pop charts worldwide.

“As I came across this acapella, I knew exactly what type of sound would fit with this remix,” Rogerson says. “I took the original chords and made a bassline that would match with the spooky theme I was going for. As everyone recognizes the chorus, I only used that part of the vocal in the track.”

Bassline-loving Dutch duo Da Phonk and Rogerson have joined forces to remix “Pon De Replay,” Rihanna’s debut single from 2005. The original’s sweetly skittering bottom end is replaced with a more substantial and faster percussive riddim. This remix adds a husky seduction to the song’s sexy dancehall vibes.

“Pon de Replay” was not just Rihanna’s debut single. It is the first of what are now 31 top-ten Billboard singles featuring the Barbados native. It also kicked off her mainstream career with a song that has sold five million-plus copies since its release.

“We wanted to give this Rihanna song a more powerful vibe,” Da Phonk says. “So we combined my pumping drums with the signature bassline of Rogerson, created some crazy build-ups on top, and now it’s more DJ/club-friendly.”
