Watch: DJ Byte Performs Routine at 3Style IX World Finals

DJcity traveled to the Red Bull Music 3Style IX World Finals in Taiwan in January. While on location, we filmed routines with noteworthy DJs including the 2015 world champion DJ BYTE. In his performance, the Chilean turntablist flips the track “GION” by producer Uki.

Eskei83 Releases Edit Pack: DJcity Exclusive

German DJ/producer Eskei83 has been working hard since winning the Red Bull Music 3Style World Finals in 2014. The Dresden native has performed around the world and developed his production skills, delivering originals, remixes, and edits on a regular basis. He also helped launched a label, Crispy Crust Records.

In January, Eskei performed a guest set at the 3Style World Finals in Taiwan. The former world champion’s selection included a variety of edits that he produced specifically for the set. He has now made those edits available exclusively to DJcity subscribers and also shared a video of the performance.

Watch: DJ Jazzy Jeff’s Q&A at Red Bull Music 3Style IX World Finals

During the Red Bull Music 3Style IX World Finals in Taiwan, DJ Jazzy Jeff sat down with DJcity’s Styles Davis for an in-depth Q&A about DJing. The legendary party rocker discussed a variety of topics, sharing his wisdom throughout the talk.

What 3Style means to him:

“This became my most inspirational week of the year … You don’t ever get chance to spend a week with your peers that you can kinda talk a complete circle about what you do. And you start to realize that after that week was over, you were more excited to play, you had more weapons in your arsenal …”

How the scene has shifted from EDM to hip-hop:

“It’s natural. … If you are fortunate to be around long enough, you realize that everything is in cycles. … Anybody that was around in the ’80s can easily identify that EDM is nothing but [Afrika Bambaataa‘s] “Planet Rock” with a little twist on it. … the Joey Bada$$‘s, the J. Coles, and the Kendrick Lamars, that’s just the rebirth of ’90s hip-hop with a twist on it. …”

If technology is making DJs less important:

“I am never afraid of technology replacing me until technology enables you to look around and see how people are vibing and make adjustments … If you want to keep a job, you have to let your employer know how much you’re needed. You gotta go in that club and play like there’s no f#cking machine that will ever be able to play like this. …”

Watch: DJs Connect at DJcity Linkup in Taipei, Taiwan

This week, DJs from around the world converged on Taiwan for the Red Bull Music 3Style IX World Finals. On Friday, we asked them all to join us at the DJcity Linkup in Taipei for exclusive giveaways and open turntables. The event, which took place at the W Hotel, featured performances from Mojaxx, DJ Delta, and Red Bull Music 3Style world champ, Damianito.

Red Bull Music 3Style Goes Sightseeing in Taiwan

On day two of the Red Bull Music 3Style IX World Finals week, this year’s participants and judges went on a sightseeing tour of Taiwan.

Their first stop was Yehliu Geopark, an area famous for its scenic rock formations. The crew then made their way up to a historic mountain city named Jiufen for food and souvenirs. Jiufen’s downtown area architecture is credited for inspiring the Japanese film Spirited Away.

The last stop of the day was Shifen Old Street, where the crew wrote wishes on lanterns and released them into the sky.
