Artists Can Now Upload Their Music Directly to Spotify

Spotify

Spotify

Spotify has announced a new feature that could transform the music industry.

The feature, which is part of the Spotify for Artists platform, enables acts to upload their music directly to the streaming service without the need for a third-party distributor or record label.

Right now, uploading is only available by invitation to a few hundred US-based independent artists, but Spotify says it will “bring upload to even more artists, labels, and teams in the future.”

By enabling artists to upload directly, Spotify has moved into the space of user-uploaded audio content, which has traditionally been dominated by SoundCloud.

It is the latest move by Spotify to work directly with artists. In July, the company introduced a tool that enables artists to submit their music for playlist consideration. And earlier this year, Spotify confirmed that it’s signing direct, non-exclusive deals with independent artists.

Learn more about the upload feature here.

Beyond Faithful: the Beef Behind the Hypest Record in DJ History

Be Faithful

Be Faithful

Whether or not you’re a DJ, chances are you’ve heard Fatman Scoop and Crooklyn Clan’s timeless anthem, “Be Faithful.” It’s a sure-fire party starter that gets played everywhere from clubs and stadiums to weddings and movies.

EDM stars drop it in between choreographed hand-hearts. Even Australian Parliament members “throw they hands up” when the song comes on. I’ve been playing it for over 16 years, and it’s never failed. Not once.

What many people don’t know is the story behind it and the on-going feud between Fatman and Crooklyn Clan member Sizzahandz. To shed light on the situation, the R.O.A.D. Podcast sat down with both of them to hear their sides of the story.

With summer wrapping up, we take a look at DJcity’s most-downloaded remixes, bootlegs, and edits of the season.

Before we dive into the list, here are some observations:

– The list is split roughly between remixes of new tracks and remixes of throwbacks.

– The majority of the original tracks are hip-hop and R&B, while most of the remixes are of the moombahton and dancehall variety.

– The most remixed artist was Drake, followed by Tyga.

– The majority of the tracks are DJcity exclusives, including two Dillon Francis remixes (the only trap remixes on the list).
