Keys N Krates Perform Special Version of ‘Understand Why’ with Extended Scratch Solo

Last Friday, we posted our interview with Keys N Krates just hours before their debut at the Coachella festival. Today, the hip-hop and electronic band is back again, this time for a special performance in Serato’s new video.

Keys N Krates’ lineup, as their name suggests, features a keyboardist and DJ, along with a drummer. Although his use of turntablism is subtle, Jr. Flo is an award-winner and Serato’s video intends to showcase his skills (and Rane’s new TTM57mkII Serato DJ mixer).

Watch above to see the band perform their Dim Mak-released single “Understand Why” with an extended scratch solo. Keys N Krates will most likely play it tomorrow during the second weekend of Coachella, so check them out if you plan on attending the festival.

Rane Unveils TTM57mkII Mixer for Serato DJ

Rane

The annual NAMM Show is going down this week, and that means we can expect to see new products from some of the most exciting DJ equipment manufacturers.

So far, one of the biggest announcements is the revival of Rane’s beloved 57 mixer series with the introduction of its new TTM57mkII.

“When introduced in 2006 the TTM57SL broke ground as the first ever DJ mixer with built-in USB sound card and tightly integrated Serato software controls,” Rane says. “When discontinued in 2013, the TTM57SL had developed a cult-like following.”

“The TTM57mkII stays true to its original design by supporting familiar workflow while improving performance and software integration.”

The mixer is designed for Serato DJ and does not support Serato Scratch Live.

Key improvements include:

– Dual USB 2.0 high-speed class compliant audio and MIDI USB ports
– No driver required on Mac
– High-performance ASIO driver for Windows
– 10 record and 10 playback channels per port
– Sample rates of 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz and 96 kHz
– Dedicated Serato DJ iZotope USB FX inserts for each deck
– Software color coded silicone RGB back-lit pads
– Aux Channel for SP-6 routing
– High/Low-Pass sweep filters for Decks 1, 2 and Aux
– Rane’s proprietary non-contact magnetic faders

Installing Multiple Rane Drivers on Serato DJ

Rane Sixty-Two

Will you be using more than one Rane device with Serato DJ on your computer? Maybe you are using an SL 3 box at home and want to go to the club where they have a Rane Sixty-Four mixer? In this case, you will need the drivers to be installed for both devices, or else you may run the risk of unexpected driver installation at the club – which could result in disaster if you are not prepared.

In response to this common problem, the folks over at Serato have put together a useful tutorial that explains how to install multiple Rane device drivers. By following their steps, you can ensure your Serato setup will be able to work with the entire family of Rane mixers.

Behind the Scenes at Rane’s Headquarters

Our friends at Serato recently traveled to Rane’s headquarters near Seattle to get a behind-the-scenes look at their operations and team. It’s always great to see how the tools we use as DJs materialize and these photos provide an extensive look into design and manufacturing process.
