Cutting Room UK Feat. Woody, Jon1st, Mr Switch, TigerStyle, Muzzell, and Mighty Atom


 
Some of the United Kingdom’s most talented turntablists go back-to-back in what might be one of the most impressive “Cutting Room” episodes yet. Filmed at the legendary Manchester venue, Band on the Wall, the five-minute scratch session features this year’s DMC World Champion, Mr Switch, along with DJ Woody, Jon1st, TigerStyle, DJ Muzzell, and Mighty Atom.

DJ Woody Discovers New ‘Spindle Scratch’


 
UK turntablist DJ Woody discovered a new scratch technique Monday night, which he named “The Spindle Scratch.”
 
“As you move the record forward with the tip of your index finger you simultaneously brush the underside of each finger over the central spindle on the turntable. Each time a finger hits the spindle it causes a break or pause in the forwards movement of the record. Brushing 4 fingers over the spindle on 1 forward movement results in 4 momentary pauses in the sound, creating a 5 step tear essentially. Doing the same on the backwards movement achieves the same effect.”
 
Woody will be featured in the UK edition of DJcity TV’s “Cutting Room,” which is due soon.

Scratch Q&A with DJ Woody and DJ Dopey


 
Canada’s DJ Dopey recently visited his old friend DJ Woody in the UK. Of course, both turntablists couldn’t hang out under the same roof without partaking in a scratch session. Check out the footage above of an early morning Q&A between the two champions.
 

“Raw and unedited, this is the first 10 minutes of an early morning freestyle Q&A between myself and our houseguest Jon (DJ Dopey). We went on for a while longer but my phone memory maxed out…”

 
Woody is the 2001 ITF World Champion and 2002 Vestax World Champion, and Dopey is the 2002 DMC World Champion.

DJ Woody – The Disco Scratch


 
Former ITF World Champion DJ Woody has returned with an uptempo scratch routine. Using the Vestax Controller One, which he co-created, Woody takes an instrumental approach to scratching, utilizing both vocal and melodic samples to create a one-of-a-kind disco edit.
