China’s DJ WORDY Performs Scratch Routine for DJcityTV

DJ WORDY, a three-time DMC China Champion, has performed a scratch routine for DJcityTV using RMD BeatMaker!’s “F 91BPM” instrumental.

A recent teaser of the video has received praise from an eclectic range of artists, including DJ QBert, Lupe Fiasco, and Salva.

DJ RENA Wins DMC World Championship at 12 Years Old

Twenty years after 15-year-old A-Trak became the youngest DJ to win the DMC World Championship, 12-year-old DJ RENA took the crown in London on Sunday.

The Japanese turntablist beat Frenchman DJ Skillz and New Zealander and current DMC Online Champion DJ Spell who placed second and third, respectively. RENA’s win marks the second year running that a Japanese DJ has triumphed in the battle. DJ Yuto won in 2016.

The DMC World Supremacy title was secured by another one of their countrymen, DJ Yukichi, who beat DJ Dwells from the U.S. using real vinyl and no DVS system.

Rane were the main sponsors of the event, with RENA winning a unique gold SEVENTY-TWO mixer, and DJ Yukichi taking home a TWELVE turntable with a one-off gold vinyl disc.

The Samples Behind Outkast’s ‘Aquemini’

Power 106‘s Wax Only series is back to examine Outkast’s classic, third studio album, Aquemini. The album title is a portmanteau of Big Boi and André 3000’s zodiac signs: Aquarius and Gemini.

The project was released on September 29, 1998, and features singles “Skew It on the Bar-B,” “Da Art of Storytellin’ (Pt. 1),” and “Rosa Parks.” The latter became the album’s most successful single.

Produced by Organized Noize, Mr. DJ, and Outkast themselves, Aquemini was certified platinum two months after its release and certified double platinum in 1999. The album peaked at number two on both the Billboard 200 and the Top R&B/Hip-Hop charts.

DSTRUKT Showcases Serato’s New Halloween Control Vinyl

To showcase its new Cursed control vinyl, Serato has enlisted DSTRUKT to put down a Halloween-themed routine for their From the Studio series. DSTRUKT, a former DMC and Red Bull 3Style regional finalist, made use of Danny Elfman’s classic “This Is Halloween” and UZ’s “Trap Shit V19” featuring Problem.

The 12-inch vinyl, which is limited edition, comes in two designs: “Screams from the grave!” and “Fangs under the full moon!” With Halloween just around the corner, DJs can grab both now on Serato’s online store.
