Watch the Producers of Sheck Wes’ ‘Mo Bamba’ Explain How They Made the Track

New York-based production duo Take A Daytrip have explained how they co-produced Sheck Wes‘ breakout hit “Mo Bamba” on a new episode of Genius’ Deconstructed.

Take A Daytrip, which is made up of Denzel Baptiste and David Biral, is best known for producing Juice WRLD‘s “Legends.” They’ve also worked with A-Trak, 6LACK, and PnB Rock. On “Mo Bamba,” they teamed up with Ohio-based rapper and producer 16yrold.

Released in June 2017, “Mo Bamba” went mostly under the radar until early 2018 when Wes signed a joint deal with Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack records and Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music. The track, which was included in the May edition of DJcity Trends, surged in popularity in June when basketball player Mo Bamba was drafted to the NBA. In September, the song debuted at No. 82 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and has quickly risen to its current peak of No. 42.

In the video, Baptiste and Biral recall how the collaboration came together and how they came up with the ominous beat. They then break down the track’s elements in Logic Pro X.
