Tim Westwood to Leave BBC’s Radio 1 After Almost 20 Years

After nearly 20 years on air, hip-hop DJ Tim Westwood is set to leave BBC as they restructure their schedule. Westwood has been a key figurehead for hip-hop in the UK and is best known for hosting a two-hour Saturday night show on Radio 1, and 1Xtra.

The network’s restructuring includes new Saturday night shows for presenters Charlie Sloth, MistaJam and DJ Target which will be aired on both stations.

Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper told UK’s Daily Mail, “I’d like to thank Tim for the last 20 years on Radio 1. His passion for hip hop is legendary. I wish him all the very best.”

The new Saturday night schedule for Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra kicks off September 21 with MistaJam’s show starting at 9pm, followed by Sloth at 9pm and DJ Target at 11pm.

According to HotNewHipHop.com, Westwood will be “staying on for his weekday show on 1Xtra and his Wednesday night soul show on Radio 2.”
