Watch Skratch Bastid & Z-Trip Perform at DJ Jazzy Jeff’s Birthday Party


 
DJ Jazzy Jeff recently celebrated his 50th birthday and had some of his friends perform at the party. In the video clip above, watch Skratch Bastid and Z-Trip throw down a few classics during an improvised set which also included scratching. The video quality isn’t very good (it was filmed with an iPhone) but it’s always cool to see these guys rock together.

Skratch Bastid Collaborating with String Quartet


 
Award-winning DJ and turntablist Skratch Bastid is working on a new project with Toronto’s Afiara String Quartet. To tease the collaboration, Skratch recently shared a video of him freestyle scratching over a beat that he made which samples the quartet. He says a four-song EP will be released soon.

Canadian heavyweights Skratch Bastid (Toronto) and DJ Hedspin (Vancouver) have teamed up to live remix Keys N Krates’ trap heater, “Hypnotik.” Watch as they flip the original upside-down and inside-out using four turntables, two Rane Sixty-Two mixers and two Pioneer DDJ-SP1 controllers.

In addition to judging the Red Bull Thre3Style’s “Lucky Bastid” competition, Toronto’s Skratch Bastid also took to the stage at this year’s world finals for some fun of his own. Here’s a clip of him performing a routine based on RL Grime’s acclaimed edit of Nadus’ “Nxwxrk.”

Back in July, Skratch Bastid performed at Canada’s Evolve Music Festival in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Now, a video excerpt of his set has been posted that shows the legendary turntablist scratching over A Tribe Called Quest’s classic “Steve Biko (Stir It Up)” and Classified’s “Anything Goes.” We wish the clip was longer but it’s dope to see nevertheless.
