Kendrick Lamar Drops New Track and Video, ‘Humble.’

Kendrick Lamar

Following last week’s surprise release of “The Heart Part 4,” Kendrick Lamar has returned with another single, “Humble.” The track features minimal, yet hard-hitting production from Mike Will Made It.

In the closing bars of “The Heart Part 4,” the Compton rapper says, “Y’all got ’til April the 7th to get ya’ll shit together.” It hasn’t been confirmed what will happen on that date, but many people have speculated that Kendrick will drop a new album. If that’s the case, then “The Heart Part 4” and “Humble.” are likely to appear on the project.

Download “Humble.” on DJcity and watch the video for it above.

To Pimp a Butterfly

After much anticipation, Power 106 has dropped an episode of Wax Only that examines Kendrick Lamar‘s third studio album, To Pimp a Butterfly.

Released on March 15, 2015, To Pimp a Butterfly debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart and won five Grammy awards. It featured the singles “Alright,” “These Walls,” and “King Kunta,” the latter of which sampled Curtis Mayfield’s “Kung Fu.” Other notable tracks were “The Blacker the Berry,” which sampled Cold Grits’ “It’s Your Thing” and “i,” which sampled The Isley Brothers’ “That Lady.”

In addition to its many accolades, the album was recently commemorated at Harvard University’s music library. It was one of the first four hip-hop albums to be archived as part of their Classic Crates project. The other three albums honored were Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, NasIllmatic, and A Tribe Called Quest’s The Low End Theory.

Wax Only is a series that showcases samples used on classic hip-hop albums. It’s hosted by Power 106’s Production Director, Vin Rican.

Kendrick Lamar Releases Surprise Album, ‘Untitled Unmastered’

Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar just dropped a new album called Untitled Unmastered. The eight-track project arrives three days after TDE’s CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith teased the label’s release schedule. He didn’t specify dates, though, so Kendrick’s album comes as a surprise.

Like his GRAMMY-winning To Pimp a Butterfly, Kendrick’s Untitled is a creative project with live instrumentation and jazz elements. The album’s credits have yet to be released, but legendary producer Swizz Beatz has revealed that his five-year-old son co-produced track seven. TDE rapper Jay Rock and CeeLo Green can also be heard on tracks five and six, respectively. All of the tracks are untitled.

Interestingly, fans might have LeBron James to thank for the release of the album. After watching Kendrick’s performance at this year’s GRAMMY Awards, LeBron pleaded to Top Dawg to release the untitled songs that he performed.
