MaddJazz Flips ‘King’s Dead’ in New Routine
Chicago DJ and turntablist MaddJazz has flipped “King’s Dead” in a new routine for DJcityTV. The former DMC and Red Bull Music 3Style competitor applied his technical scratching and beat juggling to the track.
The hit song from the Black Panther soundtrack boasts an all-star lineup of Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future, and James Blake. The track reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and was DJcity’s 11th most downloaded track of January.
In 2013, MaddJazz appeared on DJcityTV’s acclaimed Chicago episode of the Cutting Room, alongside DJs Trentino, Big Once, Boi Jeanius, and Flipside.

Watch Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future, and James Blake’s ‘King’s Dead’ Video
With the premiere of Black Panther upon us, Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future, and James Blake have dropped the video for “King’s Dead.” The track, which appears on the movie’s soundtrack, was DJcity’s eleventh most-downloaded song of January.
Shot in Los Angeles, the visual kicks off with K.Dot and Jay rapping from a palm tree while eating corn on the cob. It then cuts back-and-forth between scenes of the rappers in the hood and in the corporate world.
“King’s Dead” serves as the second single off Black Panther: The Album and follows the video for Kendrick and SZA‘s “All The Stars.” The soundtrack was curated by Kendrick and features a star-studded lineup that includes Travis Scott, 2 Chainz, Swae Lee, and The Weeknd.
