How to Master the ‘Swing Flare’ Scratch
Two-time DMC Champion Shiftee once described the “swing flare” as a power scratch that can be used to “hit your audience or your opponent in the face with your skill.” As such, the technique has been featured in various instructional videos over the years, and the latest by Scratch DJ Academy is one of the best we’ve seen. Watch above as New York DJ and turntablist Dirty Digits breaks down the scratch step-by-step.

DJ Dwells & Scratch DJ Academy Featured on ABC News
Most stories about the rise of DJing usually focus on EDM superstars and the massive venues they play at. However, ABC News recently took a break from the fist-pumping to shed light on two turntablists.
As part of their story, ABC visited the world-renowned Scratch DJ Academy in New York City to speak with former student DJ Dwells, a 14-year-old who made waves in 2014 after winning the region’s DMC championship. ABC also spoke with instructor Dirty Digits.
While Dwells and Digits are only a fraction of the turntablist scene, it’s great to see DJs like them get shine on a major news network. A win for the “Real DJing” movement? We think so.
