Deadmau5 Sued by Disney Over Logo
Deadmau5 is now engaged in a legal battle — and no, it’s not related to his recent accusations of infringement against Trey Songz.
The Toronto DJ revealed on Twitter yesterday that he’s being sued by Disney, one of the world’s largest mass media corporations, over the use of his iconic mouse head logo.
TMZ reports that court documents filed by Disney claim deadmau5’s logo is too similar to their famous Mickey ears, and they’re trying to prevent him from trademarking it in the U.S.
Deadmau5 has used the logo for 10 years but applied for a U.S. trademark last year — a move that raised eyebrows at Disney and sparked an investigation by the company.
In the documents, Disney says that its mouse ears have been in use for more than 60 years and granting deadmau5 the trademark would damage its business.
His attorney Dina LaPolt told TMZ he already has a trademark for it in 30 other countries, including Japan, Germany, Italy and the U.K.
Of course, mau5 couldn’t let something like this happen without speaking out on Twitter:
landed home to some interesting news: looks like Disney officially just filed in opposition of my trademark… lawyer up mickey.

oh, in other news.. im home! time to catch up with my cat for a minute and enjoy some timmies and ponder the finer points of trademark legal

Disney thinks you might confuse an established electronic musician / performer with a cartoon mouse. That's how stupid they think you are.

Deadmau5 Accuses Trey Songz of Ripping off His Remix
Deadmau5 is back in the news again and this time it’s not because he went on a coffee run with a famous person, trolled a fellow DJ or performed with some cool new technology.
In a series of tweets sent out on Monday, the Toronto native accused Trey Songz of ripping off his 2009 remix of Calvin Harris’ “I’m Not Alone” for the Nicki Minaj-assisted “Touchin, Lovin” (the 5th most-downloaded track on DJcity in July).
… @TreySongz https://t.co/d9C6NjFosi … really dude? like… why?

— deadmau5 (@deadmau5) August 18, 2014

Deadmau5 Grabs Coffee with Toronto Mayor Rob Ford
Deadmau5, who’s no stranger to controversy, has managed to bring out Toronto’s embattled mayor Rob Ford for the latest episode of his “Coffee Run” series.
The Canadian DJ/producer has featured high-profile guests before (Pharrell, Zedd, and Skrillex to name a few) but this episode might take the cake.
For those who don’t know, Rob Ford gained worldwide attention in May 2013 when a video surfaced that appeared to show him smoking crack cocaine.
His troubles didn’t stop there.
After pledging to quit drinking and adopt a healthy lifestyle, another video surfaced in January which showed him incoherently mocking the city’s police chief.
Ford recently returned to his job following a two-month leave of absence for substance abuse treatment.
