Deadmau5 is now engaged in a legal battle — and no, it’s not related to his recent accusations of infringement against Trey Songz.
The Toronto DJ revealed on Twitter yesterday that he’s being sued by Disney, one of the world’s largest mass media corporations, over the use of his iconic mouse head logo.
TMZ reports that court documents filed by Disney claim deadmau5’s logo is too similar to their famous Mickey ears, and they’re trying to prevent him from trademarking it in the U.S.
Deadmau5 has used the logo for 10 years but applied for a U.S. trademark last year — a move that raised eyebrows at Disney and sparked an investigation by the company.
In the documents, Disney says that its mouse ears have been in use for more than 60 years and granting deadmau5 the trademark would damage its business.
His attorney Dina LaPolt told TMZ he already has a trademark for it in 30 other countries, including Japan, Germany, Italy and the U.K.
Of course, mau5 couldn’t let something like this happen without speaking out on Twitter:
landed home to some interesting news: looks like Disney officially just filed in opposition of my trademark… lawyer up mickey.

Disney thinks you might confuse an established electronic musician / performer with a cartoon mouse. That's how stupid they think you are.
