DJcity has teamed up with renowned turntablism record label Battle Ave for an open-format tour in the US. The lineup will feature a mix of locals, special guests, and Battle Ave’s team.

Though turntablists will be involved, the At the Ave Tour is not exclusively a turntablism event. Rather, it is intended to bridge the gap between different music styles.

The tour will take place from June 15 to July 2 and make stops in Los Angeles, New York City, Houston, Phoenix, Austin, Denver, and Las Vegas.

Battle Ave is best known for their rare TRIAD Breaks record, which helped spark the recent trend of portable DJing. Their members include Manwell (Three-time DMC Los Angeles Champion and DMC US Vice Champion), IFTW (DMC World Supremacy Champion), Jawa (Beat Swap Meet), Dstrukt (DMC New York City Vice Champion), Ichy the Killer (DMC San Francisco Champion), Bakon (Asthma Funk), Revise, Mister Remix, and Rockwell.

Details and additional cities will be announced later.

TRIAD Breaks

There are hundreds, if not thousands of scratch videos on the Internet that use the ubiquitous “ahh” and “fresh” samples. There’s nothing wrong with that — some of our favorite routines use them — but we love it when DJs think outside the box and work with different sounds.

A great example of this is a routine from DJ Dstrukt that uses Battle Ave’s new TRIAD Breaks. The video shows the Brooklyn turntablist making a new track out of samples from the record, which will be available on Black Friday. Watch below.
