DJ Obi Sets Guinness World Record for the Longest DJ Set

DJ Obi

Nigeria’s DJ Obi has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest DJ set. His 240-hour marathon performance, which took place at Sao Café Lagos from June 22 to July 2, beat the previous world record of 200 hours.

Obi was allowed a 20-minute break every four hours or a one-hour break every 12 hours, according to The Guardian. He was also given daily medical checks and vitamins to help fight sleep deprivation.

Billboard reports: “the rules included caveats that at least one person must remain dancing at all times, and no song could be repeated within four hours time.”

Guinness is expected to make the record official within the next few weeks.

Red Bull Thre3style Awards Australia Title to Beast Mode

Beast Mode
Beast Mode performs at the Red Bull Thre3style Australia Final in Melbourne, Australia on July 2, 2016.

Red Bull Thre3style has stripped G Smooth of the 2016 Australian title and awarded it to Beast Mode, who came in second place at the July 2 competition. The announcement was posted to Thre3style’s Facebook page on Wednesday.

The decision follows widespread allegations that G Smooth faked his winning performance at the Australia Final by using a pre-recorded routine. The accusations stemmed from a video of G Smooth’s set, which was brought to light on Tuesday by Vekked. The reigning DMC World Champion and DMC Online Champion claimed there were numerous irregularities throughout the performance, citing specific examples.

Red Bull said in the statement that it came to the decision to revoke G Smooth’s title “after thorough review by our panel of judges and feedback from all involved parties.”

Thre3style judge Skratch Bastid added: “Red Bull Thre3Style strives to provide a stage for DJs to be creative, perform their best, and share their talents with music fans all around the world. As DJs we have the responsibility to adhere to an unwritten code of ethics led by the guiding principle that you need to take risk in your sets by doing it live. We take situations like this very seriously and consider this the only fair action to take given the circumstances.”

Beast Mode will now represent Australia at the Thre3style World Final in Santiago, Chile.
