Beatsource Hosts Launch Party in Los Angeles

​Beatsource, the new digital music service for open-format DJs, hosted its launch party in Los Angeles on Thursday. The event took place at the residence of Absolut Elyx CEO, Jonas Tahlin.

Announced earlier this year, Beatsource is a joint venture between Beatport and DJcity. The public beta of its download store launched in early October, and its LINK streaming service and PROMO subscription tier will launch soon.

Attending the party were A-Trak, who serves on the board of Beatsource, Walshy Fire of Major Lazer, legendary Los Angeles DJs Felli Fel and Revolution, Grammy-winning producers The Stereotypes, and Justin Bieber‘s DJ Tay James.

The event featured DJ sets from A-Trak, Spider, Chris Villa, Danny West, and Kaos. There were also demos from Beatsource technology partners Pioneer DJ and Denon DJ.

“Beatsource is excited to celebrate the first major step for our brand with our avid supporters, industry colleagues and DJ friends,” commented Brian “DJ Quickie” Wong, president of Beatsource and co-founder of DJcity. “There is no better way to launch a music platform than with our favorite DJs playing some good music at this incredible and intimate venue.”

How Travis Scott and Drake’s SICKO MODE Was Produced

Rogét Chahayed

Grammy-nominated producer, Rogét Chahayed, recently sat down with Native Instruments and explained how an organ sound on KONTAKT inspired the hook for Travis Scott and Drake’s multi-platinum “SICKO MODE.”

Scott’s “SICKO MODE” was the second single from his third studio album, Astroworld, it is the first hip-hop song in history to spend more than 30 weeks on Billboard’s top ten.

Beatsource and DJ Spider Launch ‘The 20 Podcast’

Beatsource, the new digital music service from Beatport and DJcity, has launched The 20 Podcast. Hosted by DJ Spider, the show features interviews with influential DJs and music industry professionals. Spider and the guests begin by going through standout tracks from Beatsource’s weekly list of must-have songs, The 20.

For the debut episode, Spider sits down with Miles Beard, VP of A&R at Artist Partner/Artist Publishing Group (APG), an arm of Atlantic Records. Miles was responsible for signing Charlie Puth and has A&R’d hits for stars like David Guetta, Pitbull, and Jason Derulo. Miles discusses his journey from starting as a DJ in Los Angeles to becoming a successful A&R.

DJ Jimmix Wins Red Bull 3Style Mexico Final

DJ Jimmix won the Red Bull 3Style X Mexico National Final on Thursday, competing against J Medina, T-Machine Gun, Dj Georgia, DJ Ulises Gonzalez, and Axel Mendoza. It is Jimmix’s third national final win, the others being in 2016 and 2017.
