Daft Punk: New Album is ‘Celebratory’ & ‘Optimistic’


In a rare and revealing interview with Australia’s Triple J today, Daft Punk gave insight into the creative process behind the album’s lead single “Get Lucky” and how it summarizes the optimistic and celebratory spirit of the entire album. Thomas Bangalter explained, “that’s what this record is made for: anywhere and everywhere.”

Diplo & Instagram’s Kevin Systrom Interview Each Other [Video]


Diplo and Kevin Systrom (founder of Instagram) recently interviewed each other at IMS Engage in Hollywood. The event was presented by the International Music Summit from Ibiza and drew global attendees from electronic music and associated industries.

DJcity attended the event and found this conversation particularly interesting and entertaining. It was cool to see two very successful leaders from different industries compare their careers and discuss mutual interests and concerns. It seems like unexpected pairings such as these are often the most insightful and inspiring.

However, the interview took an unexpected turn when Diplo revealed his feelings about buying social media fans and used DJ Bl3nd as an example. Immediately after the discussion, a brawl erupted between Diplo’s and Bl3nd’s managers who were in the audience. The chaotic scene reminded us of how passionate artists and their teams can be about marketing strategies – some of which have become the subject of heated debate in recent years.

Daft Punk – The Collaborators: DJ Falcon [Video]


In the latest video for Daft Punk’s awesome “Collaborators” series, French DJ/producer DJ Falcon discusses how Daft Punk helped bring worldwide attention to French music. Going deeper, Falcon expands on France’s contributions to music and the “French touch” which is influenced by disco. He also discusses what it’s like when he finds the perfect sample and expresses admiration for Daft Punk’s eclectic influences and consistency throughout the years.

Daft Punk’s new album Random Access Memories is due May 17 and is expected to be a game-changer with many people hoping that it brings dance music back to its roots.

Kennedy Jones x DJcity [Video]


We recently caught up with rising DJ/producer Kennedy Jones before his debut performance at Dim Mak Sundays in Hollywood. Best known for his trap remix of Elvis Crespo’s “Suavemente” which has been destroying clubs in recent months, Kennedy is no stranger to bass music stages in the United States and has produced numerous trap, and dubstep-oriented tracks.
