On Monday, veteran DJ and mixtape legend Neil Armstrong performed the first-ever all-vinyl set on DJcity’s MikiDz Show. Equipped with dozens of records, Armstrong reminded DJs of what it was like in the pre-Serato days. He also schooled viewers on the art of sampling, by playing classic tracks back-to-back with the hip-hop hits that sampled them. It was a journey through music history.
Armstrong’s interview with hosts MikiWAR and DJ Dainjazone was just as interesting. The New York native discussed his legendary mixtapes, what it was like being Jay Z’s tour DJ, Shortkut’s influence on him, among other topics.
