New tracks that DJs should know about.
DJ Quik is often regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all-time but Los Angeles producer/rapper Scoop DeVille believes he deserves more shine.
When asked during an interview with VladTV who his top hip-hop favorite producers are, Scoop praised Quik for his instrumentation and said he “should’ve been the original Dre.”
“I feel like he’s musically a genius — he’s insane . . . he could use this whole board and know what it is does in and out and I hardly even know what half of it does.”
He also discussed his new group Watercolor Werewolf and upcoming collaborations with Wiz Khalifa and Travis Barker.
Scoop is best-known for producing Snoop Dogg’s “I Wanna Rock” and Kendrick Lamar’s “The Recipe” and “Poetic Justice.” He is the son of Kid Frost — a veteran west coast rapper who’s famous for the 1990 hit, “La Raza.”
