Dr. Dre & Jimmy Iovine Donate $70 Million to USC
Dr. Dre and Interscope Records co-founder Jimmy Iovine have donated a combined $70 million to the University of Southern California, the school announced Tuesday night. The money will be used to launch the Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation.
The new four-year undergraduate program is intended for students with interests across multiple fields: including marketing, computer science, visual design and other arts. The academy will include one-on-one faculty mentoring and interaction with prominent entertainment figures.
In the official announcement, USC President C. L. Max Nikias said, “The vision and generosity of Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young will profoundly influence the way all of us perceive and experience artistic media.”
In 2008, Dre and Iovine started Beats Electronics, the parent company of the Beats by Dr. Dre line of headphones and other music devices.
Considering this announcement and their past achievements, we can’t help but wonder what Dre and Iovine will be doing in 10 years. Their vision and ambition seem limitless.
