The Chainsmokers Sign Seven-Figure Deals


Billboard is reporting that The Chainsmokers have inked publishing and label deals with Sony/ATV and Republic, respectively, each for over $1 million.
 
As of today, their single “#Selfie” has been downloaded over 726,000 times (according to Nielsen SoundScan), peaking at #16 on the Billboard Hot 100, and has been viewed on YouTube nearly 100 million times.
 
According to Sony/ATV’s chairman/CEO Martin Bandier, the DJ duo had been on the company’s radar for months before “#Selfie” was released:
 

“We were already in talks but this added whipped cream to the cake . . . It made us add a little more money to the deal. I do mean a little.”

 
The New York-based DJ/producers dropped a series of successful remixes over the last year and were gaining momentum before “#Selfie” was released. Ironically, the track was created as a joke in “literally an hour,” the duo’s manager Adam Alpert told Billboard.
