Brazilian DJ/producer duo Tropkillaz have assembled an all-star cast for a baile funk crossover, “Bola Rebola.” The track, which roughly translates to “shake” in English, features Colombia’s J Balvin and Brazil’s Anitta and MC Zaac.
With its Afro-Brazilian rhythms and trilingual vocals, “Bola Rebola” has the potential for global appeal.
“[The song is] really representative of Brazilian/baile funk music and shows our culture can crossover with different genres,” Tropkillaz told Complex.
The Tropkillaz signed with Universal Music Group in 2018 after achieving mainstream success in Brazil and building a strong reputation in the global DJ scene. They have since released a variety of singles, including “Milk & Honey” with Aloe Blacc, and “Loko” with Major Lazer, MC Kevinho, and Busy Signal. “Milk & Honey” was one of DJcity’s most downloaded tracks of March.
Fresh off winning a Latin Grammy for Best Urban Music Album, J Balvin has dropped a surprise single titled “Reggaeton.” The track is an ode to the genre and its legendary artists like Daddy Yankee and Tego Calderon.
Balvin also shared an accompanying video. The gritty visual finds him in Puerto Rico paying homage to the local culture.

A month after dropping the remix for her reggaeton smash “Mi Cama” featuring J Balvin and Nicky Jam, Colombian singer Karol G has shared the video for it. The colorful visual shows Karol making squeaky bed noises in her room while Balvin and Nicky try to figure out what’s causing the commotion.
Karol G released “Mi Cama” as a solo single in May, garnering more than 325 million views on YouTube and over 77 million Spotify streams. Balvin and Nicky’s remix took the track to new heights in mid-July, helping it reach its current position of No. 8 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart.

Haitian DJ/producer Michael Brun has broken down how he made his J Balvin-assisted single “Positivo” on a new episode of Genius’ Deconstructed. The track is the 2018 FIFA World Cup theme song for American Spanish-language TV network Telemundo.
In the video, Brun recalls how he and Balvin connected then breaks down the track in Ableton.
“The instruments, the rhythm, the energy. It’s all very distinctly Haitian,” Brun says. “This track captures, I think, the essence of what the streets in Haiti sound like.”
Released in May, “Positivo” has amassed over seven million streams on Spotify and more than 10 million views on YouTube. Brun originally released the song in February as a single titled “Bayo” featuring fellow Haitians Strong G, Baky, and J. Perry.
