Kygo Drops ‘Tropical House Volume 6’ Mix
2014 has been an outstanding year for Norwegian DJ/producer Kygo. After a series of remixes that received over a million SoundCloud plays a piece, the 23-year-old found himself in a bidding war between all the major labels. In July, Kygo ended up signing with Sony Music/Ultra, and two months later, filled in for an ailing Avicii at TomorrowWorld’s main stage.
Kygo’s rise can be attributed to his distinctive brand of “tropical house” — a growing sub-genre characterized by summer-friendly vibes and instruments such as the flute, saxophone, and steel drum.
The young Norwegian is more than a talented producer, though. His mix for “Diplo and Friends” in March received high acclaim and his set at Splash House in June was one of the best we saw at the festival. Now, Kygo is back with a new selection of tunes for Thomas Jack’s Tropical House mixtape series. Listen to the hour-long mix below:
