Hookie: Amputee DJ Overcomes the Odds

Hookie

We recently came across an inspiring video about a DJ named Hookie from Sydney, Australia. At age 19, Tom Nash aka Hookie suffered from meningococcal disease which resulted in the amputation of both his arms and legs.

Despite the physical and emotional challenges that he faced, Hookie took control of his destiny and eventually became one of the most sought-after DJs in Australia and co-founder of STARFUCKER — a Sydney-based DJ crew and nightclub. His crew also runs House of Fun which was the first label to release Will Sparks’ breakout single, “Ah Yeah!”

“Music is one of those art forms that really has the ability to completely take you to another emotional state…really, really quickly.”

“You never know what you’re capable of until you’re truly tested.”
