Disko Drew from Los Angeles’s Power 106 demonstrates some of his favorite tricks for our fifth episode of “Tone Play.” Drew can be heard on the air with DJ Felli Fel weekdays from 3-7pm and at 7pm for LA’s 7@7.
1. Whistle “Just Buggin'” to C-Murder “Down 4 My N#ggaz”
2. Usher “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” to Debbie Deb “When I Hear Music”
3. Red Hot Chili Peppers “Otherside” to DMX “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” (Eric-D-Lux Remix)
The best DJs in the world are creative and differentiate themselves by thinking outside the box. DJcityTV’s “Tone Play” series sheds light on the technique of seamlessly mixing two tracks together by linking similar tones or melodies. The technique itself isn’t new but has evolved and become increasingly popular in recent years.
