Britain’s Oldest DJ Retires

DJ Derek — Britain’s oldest DJ — has retired after decades on the decks. The 72-year-old played his last gig on New Year’s Eve at Notting Hill Arts Club in London.

A legend in Britain, DJ Derek a.k.a. Derek Morris has performed with the likes of Dizzee Rascal and Massive Attack. He’s also played at some of the UK’s largest festivals, including Glastonbury and The Big Chill.

Morris’ love of reggae and growing record collection led him to DJing at local pubs for beer money. He eventually gave up work as an accountant after 18 years to become a full-time performer.

According to the Mail Online, Morris plans to spend his retirement traveling, visiting local pubs, and listening to music at home.
