Watch DJ Puffy’s Winning Set at Red Bull Thre3style World Finals

Barbados’ DJ Puffy was crowned the 2016 Red Bull Thre3style World Champion in Santiago, Chile on Saturday night.

The 24-year-old party rocker faced stiff competition from Australia’s Beast Mode, Canada’s Trapment, Japan’s DJ You-Ki, and the United Kingdom’s JFB.

Judging the battle were legends DJ Jazzy Jeff, Craze, Z-Trip, DJ Nu-Mark, and Skratch Bastid.

Like his previous Thre3style sets, Puffy’s performance was distinguished by an energetic stage presence, Caribbean rhythms, and dubplates.

“I am an energy factory, I’m overwhelmed,” Puffy said after the win. “I will carry the torch the best I can as the best DJ in the world for the next year.”

Beast Mode

Fifth day and fourth round

Australia’s Beast Mode advanced to the final round of the 2016 Red Bull Thre3style World Finals on Friday night by winning the fourth qualifier.

Competing in the round were Germany’s Pro-Zeiko, New Zealand’s Ruse, Poland’s 69Beats, Switzerland’s Flink, and the United States’ Trayze.

Earlier that day, DJcity’s Styles Davis moderated two discussion panels. The first one featured the previous Thre3style world champions BYTE, ESKEI83, Shintaro, Four Color Zack, Hedspin, and Karve. The second panel featured legendary DJs Jazzy Jeff, Mix Master Mike, Craze, Z-Trip, Numark, and Skratch Bastid.

Trapment Selected as Wild Card in Red Bull Thre3style World Finals

Canada’s Trapment has been selected as the wild card for the final round of the Red Bull Thre3style World Finals.

The announcement was made on Saturday during a mannequin challenge with DJ Jazzy Jeff.

Trapment, who competed in the first qualifier, will battle for the crown alongside Australia’s Beast Mode, Barbados’ Puffy, Japan’s You-Ki, and the United Kingdom’s JFB.

Fourth day and third round

Japan’s DJ You-Ki moved on to the final round of the 2016 Red Bull Thre3style World Finals on Thursday night by winning the third qualifier.

Competing in the round were Austria’s Busy Fingaz, Azerbaijan’s N.E.Z, Mexico’s Jimmix, Thailand’s Bomber Selecta, and Taiwan’s DinPei.

The event also featured a headliner set from Mix Master Mike.

During the day, the judges and competitors participated in a jam session using only songs from the classic compilation series, Ultimate Beats and Breaks. DJs flexed their juggling and scratching skills, and Skratch Bastid gave insight into each of the records and their importance in shaping the culture.

Third day and second round

Barbados’ DJ Puffy moved on to the final round of the 2016 Red Bull Thre3style World Finals on Wednesday night by winning the second qualifier.

Competing in the round were Belgium’s Cross, Brazil’s A, France’s Stresh, Italy’s Delta, and Spain’s Ches.

Earlier that day, Serato hosted a “Rip n Flip” contest, which challenged DJs to create on-the-fly edits and remixes using the Serato Flip expansion pack. VaZee, this year’s IDA Online Scratch Champion, was chosen as the winner by judges Jazzy Jeff, Skratch Bastid, Hedspin, and Nedu Lopes.

Second day and first round

The United Kingdom’s JFB advanced to the final round of the 2016 Red Bull Thre3style World Finals on Tuesday night by winning the first qualifier.

The round included Argentina’s Lautaro Palenque, Canada’s Trapment, Chile’s Diego Zapata, the Netherlands’ Abstract, and South Korea’s J.fitz.

Earlier in the day, the Thre3style judges and all 24 contestants formed into teams and got started on a week-long remix contest with Pioneer DJ’s TORAIZ SP-16 sampler.
