Nicki Minaj Drops ‘Truffle Butter’ Ft. Drake & Lil Wayne

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj’s The Pinkprint album dropped today, and one of the project’s standout tracks is a collaboration with her labelmates Drake and Lil Wayne titled, “Truffle Butter.” Some listeners might recognize the beat, along with Drizzy and Wayne’s verses, as they were previously featured on Mally Mall’s “Whatcha Say.”

It’s also been pointed out that “Truffle Butter” contains a sample of UK house star Maya Jane Coles, which sparked a backlash among some of her fans. She posted the following message on her Facebook page in response:

“It’s interesting to see all of the hateful comments about the Nicki Minaj track. As a producer that only makes music that I love, for me, it’s only an honor to have people from completely different scenes wanting to sample one of my productions. I NEVER compromise my own music. If I didn’t like it, why would I bother making it. If someone else likes what I have done and wants to sample it and use it in their own style then for me that is a huge compliment. just saying. PLUS also, why do people keep talking about money?? Record sales don’t make money anymore!!! This has nothing to do with money, I came from a hip hop background, that’s what got me into music in the first place. It’s so weird to have to explain myself about something I’ve always loved doing.”

Lil Wayne Blasts Cash Money: ‘I Want Off This Label’

Lil Wayne and Birdman

Lil Wayne vented his frustrations with his label Cash Money Records and its CEO Birdman on Twitter today. In a series of tweets directed to fans, Weezy said Cash Money won’t release his long-delayed ablum Tha Carter V and that he wants to leave the label. Read his words below:

Wayne’s tweets come as a surprise, as he’s maintained a close relationship with Cash Money for many years.

“Everybody knows I came into the game at 11 years old with Cash Money Records, before we even had a major deal,” Wayne told MTV News back in 2012. “We signed a deal in I don’t remember when, and I been with Cash Money ever since. So if you’re looking for integrity, I am the definition. If you’re looking for a person that’s gonna stay down, I am the definition. If you’re looking for loyalty, I am just that.”

In 2005, Wayne launched Young Money Entertainment, an imprint of Cash Money, and signed an additional four album deal in 2008. He’s also released five singles from Tha Carter V: “Believe Me,” “Krazy,” “Grindin’,” “Gotti” and “Start a Fire.”

Within minutes of tweeting, rapper Pusha T responded by suggesting that Wayne should join Kanye West’s label, G.O.O.D. Music:

This isn’t the first time a Cash Money artist has voiced grievances with the label, though. In October, Tyga revealed on Twitter that his album, The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty, was completed but the label was “holding him hostage.” He sent the following tweet today, apparently in support of Wayne’s comments:

Quincy Jones Criticizes Lil Wayne and EDM

Quincy Jones

Quincy Jones expressed his dislike for Lil Wayne and “techno” music in a recent interview with The National. When the legendary producer and music industry executive was asked about today’s pop artists, Jones answered:

“Let’s get real, man. When you come from the era of Ray Charles, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson, it gets hard to get used to Lil Wayne. I just can’t handle it. There are some good singers out there. Mary J Blige can sing, so can Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera. I know who they are. I also know who they aren’t, too.”

Jones also voiced his dislike for “techno” — although we presume he was speaking on EDM as a whole:

“I don’t like techno at all. That’s just noise. I can try it because there is nothing to it but I just don’t think there is anything to learn from it. Now all these DJs are making more money than rock groups. They don’t even need bands anymore. People such as Skrillex and those guys get half a million to a million dollars a show all over the world from Las Vegas to Brazil. As a musician it is extremely frustrating. Because that’s just music to sell products.”

Best known for producing Michael Jackson’s album, “Thriller,” Jones is the all-time most nominated GRAMMY artist with 79 nominations and 27 awards.
