Legendary Salsa Label Fania Records Is Making a Comeback with Remixes and Dance Parties

ABC7’s Vista L.A. show recently did a story on Fania Records, a legendary salsa label that’s making a comeback by releasing remixes and throwing dance parties.
Vista L.A. host Patricia Lopez spoke with Fania’s VP of A&R, Canyon Cody, about the label’s beginnings, their Calentura party, and Deejay Theory’s remix of Willie Colon and Hector Lavoe’s “La Murga.”
The original version of “La Murga” was also sampled by Major Lazer for the group’s 2014 single featuring Sean Paul, “Come To Me.”
That wasn’t the first time Major Lazer sampled a Fania release, though. In 2013, the group used Willie Colon and Ruben Blades’ “Maria Lionza” for “Watch Out For This (Bumaye).”
