In a recent interview with VIBE, veteran producer Swizz Beatz discusses the importance of Jay-Z’s upcoming and highly-anticipated album, Magna Carta Holy Grail. The album was first teased during the 2013 NBA Finals through a Samsung commercial featuring Pharrell, Timbaland, Rick Rubin and Swizz Betz in the studio with Jay-Z.
During the interview, Swizzy says Jay is “ahead of the times” and Magna Carta Holy Grail strikes a balance between authenticity and pushing boundaries:
“[Fans] always want to go back to the classics. You always have that hunger of ‘Man, why didn’t he didn’t he just…Man, he’s supposed to…’ It’s always going to be that. For the first time in a long time I think someone solved that problem. He did that with this album.”
He also discusses Jay’s creative process and Billboard’s stance on not counting the album’s first million sales purchased by Samsung.
We’ve seen a lot of albums over-hyped during the last couple years but Hov’s forthcoming project has the potential to be a masterpiece.
Magna Carta Holy Grail will be available for free on July 4 to the first million Samsung Galaxy users who download the custom app. The album hits retail July 7.
